![]() I even thought of the perfect name for it. I think such a game would be quite well received. A few games in other genres kind of tread that ground, especially grand strategy/4x games, but none of those have ever really been focused on the worldbuilding/plot like RTSs do, and they're always about controlling multiple things rather than one fleet in one location. The RTS genre never really innovated past the map/mission based scenarios, for some reason. Basically an open world RTS/RPG like Witcher/Skyrim/etc, only instead of playing a dude, you play a fleet. Explore the galaxy, mine, find old relics, research new technologies, make friends and enemies, find allies to fight with you, all under some larger plot. My personal dream is an open world Homeworld 3. I cant really think of anything else which would be able to truly revitalize the genre. The game i dream about the most, even more than Half Life 3 id say, is for some old veteran devs at Blizzard to get in a room and create a Warcraft 4 which is true to form. ![]() I loved Planetary Annihilation: Titans, (though i would agree that its a step back compared to SupCom:FA in some areas), but apart from that i havent really been excited about and enjoyed an RTS since Homeworld Remastered and Deserts of Kharak. DoW3 got some hype, but they fell for the lure of diluting the genre by taking strong cues from MOBAs and it fell flat on its face. Starcraft 2 is just about the only currently active title gamers at large know about, and the biggest RTS reveal on E3 was another HD remake thing of Age of Empires. ![]() Company of Heroes 2: The Western Front Armies adds two. I agree overall though, the RTS genre is painfully stagnant. Step into the boots of a Soviet commander of the Red Army, entrenched in brutal frontline warfare to free Mother Russia from the Enemy invaders Adjust your tactics to take into account the brutal weather conditions and wield the might of the Soviet Empire as you smash your way to Berlin. Im genuinely curious: If you love supreme commander, and think Planetary Annihilation was a step backwards, do you really consider Supreme Commander 2 to be a better game than Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance.?
